After the Mass & Baptism in São João Batista was over we headed out to the parish hall behind the church for lunch and a party for the Baptism.
Lunch consisted of Spaghetti, Chicken, Rice, Greens from the local river bank and of course beans. Beans all the time!
Padre Derek gives the grace before meals in the parish hall. The yellow wooden building in the background is the local state school.
A colourful and noisy local!
Friends forever!
Another bridge, which I christened "Ave Maria Ponte" {Hail Mary Bridge} much again to the amusement of the locals.
After lunch and a little rest we took our leave of The Community of São João Batista and made our way towards São Rafael. But the going was far from smooth, as the muck in this picture shows. The lorry load of pigs was well and truly stuck. So we had no choice but to turn back. Luckily we had a local on board on the back of the jeep and he directed us through fields and farm yards to bypass the obstacle. The only trouble in my mind was, how were we going to find our way home. Thankfully the truck was pulled free by the time of our return journey, but even with the four-wheel drive we slid side ways up the hill!
