On the first visit to the assentamentos our travels brought us to a second community in the afternoon, by the name of São Rafael [Saint Raphael]. This is a small community with very little community facilites. In the pictures below you will see the wooden Church, Hall and Pub / Shop. This would be the full total of community and parish facilities.
Locals arriving for the 2 p.m. Mass. We announced our arrival by blowing the horn and those living locally set out for church where as the far away people were waiting for us in the hall or pub or the church, and since there was no great hurry on us we waited for the locals to arrive.
Local Transport ~ Horses tied up behind the church. No need to tie up the foal who will stay by her mother's side.
Some local girls leaving after the monthly Mass. All dressed up in their Domingo {Sunday} best, only this was "Quinta-feira" {Thursday}.
The local hall in the foreground and the local shop / bar / private house in the background. The horse was released from the trailor, it's owner was possibly in the bar all morning and now he is sleeping in the hammock in the hall.
