The other day I headed out with the Catechist to one of the furthest away communities called "Santo Anjos" {Saints & Angels} arriving at sundown. Here we had the monthly Mass in the local hall / church / school. Light was provided by power from a car battery. Because of the distance I stayed over night with one of the families. On this occasion an elderly couple gave me refuge in their wooden house.
Settling down for Mass
After Mass we had a party for all whose birthday occured in August, yours truly was included. Birthdays are a big celebration over here and it matters little what birthday it is. The whole congregation had to sing Parabens / Congratulations!
Local drinking "chimarrão". This is green tea packed into one side of the cup then hot water {sometimes cold water and lemon juice} is poured in and then the tea is drunk using the metal straw. Only part of the tea is disolved in the water and when the drinker is finished the cup and straw and tea is passed on to the next drinker who pours in the water - hot or cold depending on taste! More tea is disolved and then passed on to the next drinker. This in an influence from Gaúcho country {Southern Brazil} where many of the locals came from.
Building a new Churrasco {Barbeque} for the community Festa the following Sunday.
